Gluten Free Apple Pear Crisp!

If you are looking for a dessert for a holiday dinner, this one is a crowd pleaser and no one needs to know that it’s actually good for you. (Shh) It’s gluten free, dairy free and taste amazing with it’s sweetness and texture, without leaving you feeling bloated or sluggish afterwards. This dessert delivers high fiber, vitamin C and K and is full of potassium, while delivering the richness of a holiday dessert that you would expect. I made this healthy delicious crisp for a get together recently and it was a huge success. For added holiday color, consider adding cranberries or pomegranate seeds to the mix. Serve it with a dollop of coconut ice cream or Greek yogurt, although it’s delicious all by itself!

Filling-

8-10 apples and pears peeled and sliced

1/4 cup maple syrup or raw honey

1 teaspoon almond extract

2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger

Zest of one orange

1/2 cup of apple cider

1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder

Put the peeled fruit in a casserole dish. Combine all other ingredients and whisk in arrowroot until dissolved. Pour over the fruit and set aside.

Topping

2 cups of rolled oats

1 cup of oat or almond flour

1 cup of toasted sliced almonds

1/4 teaspoon of sea salt

1/2 cup of maple syrup or coconut sugar

1/3 cup of coconut oil

1 teaspoon of almond extract

In two separate bowls combine dry ingredients, and wet ingredients. Add the wet to the dry and combine. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit evenly. Place in 350 degree oven for 35 minutes covered with foil. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes so topping gets crisp and golden. Rest for 10 minutes and serve warm.

I hope you give this healthy crisp a try this holiday and comment below and let me know how you and your guest liked it!

Hoping your holiday is healthy and delicious!
